This is a must!
I happened to see this book at my friend's house but didn't finish the book. So, I went home and ordered it online. After finished reading this book, I must tell you that I'd gained a lot more confidence in winning more money. Last week, I went to Las Vegas with my family, and it DID pay off. Not all the tips and secrets in the book applied, yet I managed to win more money than I'd ever done before. Take it from me, I don't like reading much, but I got to admit that this book is pretty easy to read. Better yet, you can just skip to any chapter you're interested in right away.

The ONLY Slots Book You'll Ever Need!
Casinos are in the business of taking people's money. They are not a charity and they have a 30 day money back guarantee. It's a fact and no matter what spin they try to put on it, it's your wallet that they have in their sights. It's operation drain pocketbook. And according to some estimates, as much as 80% of a given casino's revenues now come from slot machines.

They are easy to play and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure them out. Unlike table games which can be intimidating because of the interactions with other players and the complexities of the games themselves, you just put a couple of coins in and hit the little button or pull the magic lever. Who can't handle this?

It is because of this simplicity that slots generate the largest share of revenue for the gaming industry. In Blackjack, a player has lots of control over how much of an "edge" the house has. With a slot machine, it does what it is programmed to do and short of taking a sledge hammer to it - there is nothing you can do to change that - until now.

Frank begins with an excellent - but short and sweet - history of slot machines as they related to the industry. He also describes how the machine actually works, which is of great importance to the player. Some of the most basic information he provided about today's "smart slots" dispels many myths: including the one of hot and cold machines.

Not only is this section a learning experience, it helps the savvy slots player understand the forces at work behind the machines designed to take his money. Understanding how the machines work is half the battle - knowing how the casino works and why is the other half. And Frank does a remarkable job of quenching the readers' thirst for both.

Using Frank's techniques and information obtained from his interview with a casino slot executive who he refers to as "Mr. Handle", I have been able to locate the "loose" machines in even the tightest casinos. The information is not only on target, it makes sense when one considers what is being said.

Frank's extremely revealing interview - quoted verbatim - has exposed so much about the placement of "loose" machines. And what's even more valuable is the fact that Frank has not only provided the locations but also the reasoning behind the locations.

Finally, the book contains a wealth of information that has been put into perspective about the slot player's long and short term prospects. Can you really come out ahead? According to Frank, yes - but only if you are careful and heed the warnings in this title.

For the few dollars you spend on this book, you may save yourself hundreds and maybe much more at the slots.

Fabulous book on slots!
This book is highly recommended. It gives solid strategies that have already saved me hundreds of dollars. But it is also so much fun to read. The writer knows how to tell a story and he has some of the most interetsing stories about slot players in his book. His interview with Mr. Handle about where the loose machines are placed is worth the price of the book. I also liked his section on the Darwinian Slot Selection System. You won't be bored reading this book and you will learn a LOT!

Very Valuable Book for Slot Players
I saw this author interviewed on television and I decided to get his book. I am glad I did. For years I have been wasting my time and money playing progressive slots hoping to hit the big one. However, almost everytime I went to casinos I came home a loser. This book showed me what machines to play and how to increase my chances of coming home a winner. It was very well written and also enjoyable. The interviews and stories were first rate. This is a definite must read book for slot players.

Book informed me of a few things I wasn't aware of but didn't much cover the small Indian casinos prevalent in our area which is all we play in. Would possible be O.K. for anyone that travels around some.

Good info - didn't care for the format
The way that this book is set up is that the author gives you a series of questions, and then the answers. Personally I did not care for this format. Part of the problem is that by the time you get to the answers, it is easy to have forgotten the exact wording of the questions. I think that it is ok to have a quiz after the information is presented, like some of the Dummies and Idiots books might do, but I did not care for the quiz first format. If you know NOTHING about slots, this is not a good first book to read.

Some of the chapters were more interesting than others, and more useful. I did not really care for some of the chapters about the different manufacturers of the machines, and thought that it was pretty difficult to take a quiz on this information.

Many of the themes are repeated over and over, such as how the machine is random. Sometimes this becomes a dead horse that is beaten. I know there are a lot of misconceptions about slot machines, so maybe this is neccessary.

Overall a good book, but I preferred Break the one-armed bandits better. Perhaps that is because I read "Break" first, and it was such a ground breaker. This book even quotes "Break" a few times.

Great info, great format
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer ... a book doesn't get any easier to follow than this one. The start of each answer paraphrases the question. You can easily browse through, reading the answers as a series of essays on slots, without ever taking the quizzes. To me, breaking down the volume of information into short, digestible essays makes this one of the most user-friendly books on slots around. It goes beyond Break the One-Armed Bandits with information on video slots and slot clubs. Definitely a must for slot players.

Not for Beginners
The author is a former rocket scientist and the book contains many charts that the "average" person may find difficult to fathom. There are very few explanations for the terms used in the charts and minimal examples. The beginning player wants to know why video poker is so popular; the difference between normal slots and video poker; what are full-pay machines. If you are just starting out - don't start with this book.

A Must Read for Any Video Poker Fan
A wonderful, comprehensive, easy to read book on video poker. It makes it easy and fun to play the game and to know you are making the right play. Lenny Frome deserves his title as master of video poker. I started out not really knowing how to play the game but now I love playing and feel confident that I am using the winning strategy! The EV tables make are easy to use. I also suggest reading VP Americas National Game of Chance by the same author.

ALMOST AS MUCH FUN TO READ AS IT IS TO PLAY
I am a regular video poker player. I had heard many positive things about Mr. Frome's book, though I do not generally anjoy reading. The book was very enjoyable to read and immediately improved my play and that was very rewarding, if you know what I mean. I highly recomend the book for players at any level.

Advantage Slots
Published in Paperback by Silverthorne Publications, Inc. (23 June, 2000)
Author: Jack Finch
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

Bigger Rip-off than the Slots!
A ridiculously inflated price for a 1/4 inch book that can be read in less than an hour. Contains a few basic common sense suggestions (Like don't play in the toilet. Duh!), a lot of suggestions that you buy more books that they've published, and some odd betting progressions which don't make sense. If you walk away from a machine that's not winning, which is basic common sense, that is what is cutting your loses... not the betting progression. This book reads like it was written for someone that has never played slots before and contains far too many veiled advertisements for my tastes.

Essential Information + Bonus Coupons!
This book is the best I have seen on slot machines. It dispels a number of myths about slot machines and, even better, presents concrete "real-life" examples on how to play and win.

I've used the methods described in this book for the past month and my wins easily outnumber my losses by a wide margin.

The author's approach is the best I have seen. Jack Finch has obviously been around slot machines a lot and his easy going writing style makes his recommendations easy to follow.

I also like the [money] of Free Coupons I received with this book. If you want to learn how to play and win at slots and even receive coupons worth more than the price of the book, then you really should buy this book. It is simply the best.

Loaded with Winning Information!
Jack Finch's "Advantage Slots" is a complete "how to" manual for playing and actually winning at slot machines. I have read several books published by Silverthorne Publications and I like the clear style and logical approach. This book is in the same vein. This manual is direct, honest and very enlightening. It can take the place of half a dozen books as far as I am concerned.

Here are some of areas that are covered in great depth:

1. Discusses which machines are loose and tight and shows you exactly how to find them.

2. Shows you what areas of the country have the best machines.

3. Reveals the exact strategies you can use to play progressive "jackpot" machines and consistently come out ahead - even if you don't win a jackpot.

4. Explains which denomination of machine is loosest. This information alone is worth the price of the book.

5. Gives a complete money-management system that certain slot pros use to cut losses to the bone and to lock up and keep winnings.

6. Shows you exactly how to find the best slot machines and then use "hit and run" tactics to beat the machine.

7. Completely explains the winner's lock-up strategy that allows you to win very consistently at slot play.

8. Reveals proven winning strategies you can use to consistently win at slots. This is the core of the book and is really great.

9. Offers ways to find the loosest machines and how to apply reliable systems to beat them!

10. This book starts where others leave off. This is really a manual on how to win at slots with more specific information that I have ever seen. If you decide to play slots, consider the price of this book as your first bet.

Slot Smarts: Winning Strategies At The Slot Machine
This book would have received higher "stars", however, the author is too moralistic in preaching on the perils of slot playing. There is too much information in this book that the average slot player is already aware of. The book was disappointing from this stand point. I did use the author's spreadsheet to enable better tracking for my future slot sessions. Frankly, the book is overpriced for the knowledge gleaned.

Good strategies for those new to slot money management.
I read this short book in one night. The strategies for playing the machines are well documented and easy to follow. My only complaint is too much time repeating the basics of limiting your gambling to money you can afford to lose and limiting your expectations for profit--we all know that I hope. But I'm going to try the strategies on my next trip to the casinos and I'll let you know if they work then...

Coming out ahead
I'd like to start out by thanking the author. I've been a gambler for several years, but not a very smart one. I used the - Green Plan - on quarters and it worked for me. I made a profit late in the afternoon. Had I been playing 3 quarters all along, I would have run out of money hours earlier. I'm anxious to study up on the other work plans and put them to the test.

It was a new feeling for me that I was in control of the outcome much more than ever before. I recommend it for the gambler that likes to go often, but can't afford it if they lose. This way, you win a little or lose a little, and can afford to keep visiting the casino.

It sure beats some of my previous strategies, like rabbits feet, wearing red and walking around an oak tree during the full moon.

Thank you, Claude.

Book paid for itself many times over!
Very few books that suggest ways to beat the casinos actually deliver on their promise. Well this one really does! The information provided by R. Carl Cohen is easily understood, and includes many very valuable tips on how to tilt the odds in your favor. I have used his strategies and seen the results for myself. I wouldn't consider a trip to the casinos without this valuable information.

John Patrick is a Scream!
Now that I've commented on his outrageous writing style, let me say that his money management rules are solid gold. From the breaking of play into sessions through "Naked Pulls" to win goals and loss limits, Patrick's advise is right on the money. My only criticism is that following his system to the letter tends to take the fun out of slots-it's too complicated, too much to remember while playing. But there is much that we can learn from Patrick's book. It's one of the best out there for slot gamblers.

this book was fairly decent book. it was about sports with a little bit of comedy. a guy trys to play all different kinds of sports and gets thrown around and made fun of. he tries hard cause he wants to be like his friends. he is always getting hurt.
there was some bad things about the book i didnt like. for one its to long. its also not as funny as it sounds like it would be. it wasn't a bad book though. it was confusing how one day he was doing one sport and all of a sudden the next day he was doing another. I would recommend this book to likes sports and a little bit of comedy.

This marvelously written book takes you straight into a not-so-perfect teenager's head. Elvin Bishop is fat, weak, indefensive and insecure. Just as Elvin gets out of school he learns that he is going back, sort of. He is going to a so-called "retreat", which is really just his new school. The camp is called "Twenty one nights with the knights". Elvin is always being picked on. He knows that the retreat is going to be terrible ever since the bus-ride to the camp when everyone starts picking on him and stealing his food. To Elvin, food is almost as precious as gold, so when they were stealing his food he felt miserable. To comfort himself he would look at the school's brochure, trying to image and pretend how much fun he would have there. His vision slowly fades away as he starts settling in. Almost immediately, everyone was picking on Elvin; his only defenses being his two best friends Mikie and Frankie. Out of those two his only real friend is Mikie because Mikie really understands Elvin. Frankie is his friend too but he isn't really a "real" friend, just someone who is nice to Elvin. Elvin feels that: "Frankie is just too perfect to be my friend".
The camp has a system of "slots", or places in sports. Elvin is just good for nothing, no sport seems to fit his personality, he tries football, soccer, baseball and finally when he thinks he found his place in wrestling, his hopes are turned down by the coaches when he is asked to leave because of other incoming students. Later when he finds a slot in art he meets new friends and finds out that strength doesn't always have to be physical.
Chris Lynch is a great author who takes you into the head of a 14 year old boy, revealing his thoughts and impressions. "Slot Machine" is mostly comedy and drama. If you are interested in a good, refreshing novel, then this is a book for you.

Book Report Review
This is a truly astonishing book. It is a story about a catholic teenage boy named Elvin. Who has just got out of grade school and now over the summer is going to a sleepway called 21 knights for 21 nights. During this all boy camp Elvin an obese kid keeps getting moved into different sport activity areas called slots. Throughtout the book he his placed into various amounts of these slots. During this time his good friend Mikie wants to try and get Elvin in shape. Also, his other friend Frankie is trying to get into the cool crowd and doing this wasn't one of the more joyful times of his life. Any way this is all I'm going to tell you because I don't want to ruin the book for you.
