It's not only the ticket holders who face odds
J. Blaine Lewis, Jr. was fired in 1989 from his post of Connecticut state lottery chief. This is the story of his ten year legal battle against the state in which we gain an insight into the politics of lottery management, the courage and integrity of a man in a David and Goliath scenario, and the failure of the legal system to provide justice. It is also a love story of a devoted wife, who in memorium, is driven to vindicate her husband. The message conveyed deserves national attention. What a great story for TV or the large screen.

Shame on Conneicut
This book is an inside look at the politics of state run funtions and the effects on honest employees. A must read book!

A WHISTLEBLOWER'S TALE
This book is the story of a man with principles, written by the wife who loved him to the end, and loves him still. It is the factual account of a man who was ordered to lie by his bosses and refused, and was then hounded out of his job by men more concerned with kickbacks than doing what was right. The author backs every word up with transcripts and documents-not a word of it is unsubstantiated. In this little book is a magnified look at the workings of government. Read it and weep.

Eyes Open - Pockets Wide
If you decide to do any gambling, even a few bucks on your state lottery, consider the price of this book as your first bet. Orkin presents the real odds of most popular gambling games, at least one 'sure fire system' (yes there is such a thing, but you need deep pockets and have to be satisified with a pretty low rate of return), and the effects of the 'house edge'in an entertaining manner and with just a minimum of math. In fact, skipping the math in the book does nothing to reduce the book's usefulness nor your reading enjoyment.

Read this if you think gambling is a solution to money problems. In fact, after going through this highly readable and entertaining book you may be tempted to skip the lottery tickets and put the money in casino stock instead!

An excellent book on casino math
Casino math for the non-mathematician. If you really want to understand the math, it will take some effort to follow if you haven't dealt with probability and statistics in a while or ever. However, I am so tired of people presenting schemes on how to win at craps, roulette, etc: Martingale, anti-Martingale, D'Alembert, contra-D'Alembert, ad nauseam. No matter how you weight a negative expected return, the sum of the series is still expected to be negative. The risk to people who use these schemes unwittingly to gain a series of small "wins" is the guarantee of a single huge loss somewhere in the future - the longer you put it off, the larger it will be. If you didn't understand what you just read and want to, this book is for you. The writing is brisk, bordering on entertaining (if you're into this sort of thing) and not nearly as dull as you'd expect. The previous reviewer covered which games were presented so I won't repeat. Like Stanford Wong, this author's math is accurate - unlike many, many other authors.

Science shows you were to put your money.
Mike Orkin's book explains the real odds for all the common casino games, and in the process, shows you it is generally better to leave your money in your own pocket, and just watch. Games covered include roulette, craps, Keno, slots machines, sports betting, blackjack, lotteries and horse races. A great chapter on the Prisoner's Dilemma is included, and covers thecomplex issue of when it is best to be a snicth, and when it is best to be quiet.

GREAT RESEARCH
I want to congratulate Ms. Kelley for an outstanding research about the variations of this pastime. Very well written for a descriptive book about the generalities of each variation. I really like to contact Ms. Kelley in order to share some thoughts. My emails are: gtejeira@panamacom.com gtejeira66@yahoo.com

What fun! What an eye-opener! Definitely buy!
This is a wonderful book that really introduced us to a lot of great evenings in our house. It has a wide variety of games for double six sets and double nine sets, and any number of players. The games we've played have been enjoyable for the adults as well as for the children, and many of the games have even helped our daughter's math skills - - a game such as muggins, where you try to make the pips on the open ends add to multiples of 5. There are old stand by's here, as well as games that have been newly invented. At a price like this, for all the fun we've had, well, it's tough to find a better, more enjoyable deal.

This "Great Book" leads to great family entertainment.
For generations, folks in my family have played various domino games, though I don't recall ever seeing a set of written rules. I'm delighted that I found the rules to these games and scores of others in Jennifer Kelley's "Great Book of Domino Games." From domino solitaire to versions involving eight or more players, the games are all here -- and so is plenty of five-star fun for friends and family, including kids who develop math skills as they become accomplished players. This superb little book is on my list for birthday gifts.

Simply the best
No nonsense, brilliant and fascinating. Gives me an appetite for more. The best book I have ever read on the subject. Harry's software is fantastic too. It is a real eye-opener.
A MUST read for any serious lottery player.

AT LAST A WORTHWHILE LOTTERY BOOK
Well done Harry Schneider. Your lottery book and software are very impressive. Simple design and layout with effective easily understood results. Saw your comments on the opening screen of the software and closing comments in the book. It's if I had written them myself - brilliant! You have put in a lot of work to produce your book and software and it will certainly meet all my own needs. On the one hand I am depressed that I had not written this book and software myself but on the other hand I don't have to go through all the work and headaches that you have gone through developing it. The pro's are what all gamers want:- Handy sized book - not too onerous; Small file to download; simple design; no gimmicks; No reading through pile of other peoples' winning anecdotes - gives me the impression that I'll be telling my own winning story! Does the job exactly as designed very effectively; very fast; extremely powerful filters; a pleasure to read and use. As I said before - WELL DONE HARRY!

Brilliant school story
A beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful book. I am so impressed with the author's prowess, using so many different voices (no easy feat), and so cleverly using a science fair experiment to talk about many important things in the world from a seventh grade point of view. This is a creative and original work and a very fresh voice in children's literature. I am still wiping the tears from my eyes and hoping that, like the kids in this story, the author goes on to win a lot of prizes.

MIND GAMES: candy for the intellect
MIND GAMES brilliantly juxtaposes the voices of six different seventh graders as they attempt to solve their science premise along with their relationaships with each other.

With precise language, featuring an economy of words, the author deftly moves from one character to the other in this tightly woven novel.

The imaginative format found both inside and outside the book itself add immediately to its charm and originality.

Jeanne Marie Grunwell is master of her material with each sentence of each paragraph on every page. The varied format, including exhibits, adds interest. The characters are neither simple nor stereotypical. Each is an individual with distinct needs to be met. The resolution is gratifying and complete.

Personally, I have rarely been so moved by such excellence in a novel which may be aimed at a middle grade audience, but is profoundly satisfying for the 'older' reader as well.

Wonderful Adventure
"Mind Games", by new author Jeanne Marie Grunwell, is simply superb. This is one of those books that you won't want to put down, and will read in one sitting. An inviting mixture of colorful characters, an involving story line(..a school project exploring ESP..), all presented with a true ease of writing style. Young people will relate with the middle school students here, as they embark on a most adventurous exploration. "Mind Games" is sure to interest readers for years to come--it's the kind of book I loved as a young adult..and still do! I can't wait for the movie version!

Great Resource for Study Group
What a great resource for a study group on this issue. I used this book as a source for presenting Biblical guidance on gambling and the lottery. The material was very straight-forward and easy to understand. The Bible is very clear on the issue and Dr. Evans brought what the Bible has to say to us on this in a way that any layperson could understand. There should be no question as to what our Father expects from us after reading this book and following up with the Biblical references that were cited in the book.

The Truth has finally been told about the Lottery!
If you do not what to know the truth about Gambling and the Lottery then this book isn't for you! Dr. Evans has done an excellent job in presenting what the Word of God says concerning this issue and where we as beleivers are to stand also. In all of Tony Evans writtings he deals with the truth only, not personal feelings or opinions. Bless Your Spirit

Wonderful
I was amazed at the wonderful insight that Dr. Evans gives in this in depth study of the lottery and gambling. I am so thankful that somebody finally had the guts to step up to the plate and deal with this issue on a biblical base. Many times preachers refuse to deal with issues so controversial because of the reaction that they anticipate from the crowd. Thank you Dr. Evans for your biblical stance and your wonderful teaching.

Excellent book. Very well explained. I never played this version of Dominoes and I really like to do it. I like to contact Mr. Roberson in order to share some thoughts. My emails are: gtejeira@panamacom.com gtejeira66@yahoo.com

One of the best instructional books ever written
Dennis did a great job on this one. This one is perfect for a beginner, novice, or so-called "expert". He explains the 42 terms perfectly assuming nothing. I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn a great new game. My hat's off to you, Dennis.

A must read introduction to "42" for any non-Texan novice
When I moved to Texas two years ago, many of my new friends played an unfamiliar game of "42". I hesitated joining their parties since "42" meant nothing to me. Then I found Dennis Roberson's book, "Winning 42". After reading cover to cover my confidence built and I am now part of the party and looking forward to the next session. The book does contain a few 'typos', but they force you to think and reflect on the game. If you want to learn "42" and its history, this is a MUST READ. book.

Great Book
I read this book a couple of months ago. I know that his ways to win sweepstakes works because it has worked for me. I will also be trying his game show technics in a couple of years. A must read for people who really want to win.

interesting, especially part about contests, game shows.
Have seen author interviewed on tv several times. Obviously he was an actor, for he is very good. Don't know about secrets of winning lottery, but information on contests and game shows most effective. Understand author has won considerable prizes and money by entering contests and appearing on game shows - so he knows his stuff. Recommend book to people interested in these things, especially because of entertaining style of writing and anecdotes

Quest of Spirituality
Reading of Johnny Thumper toil with his own thoughts & feelings of life was delightful & insiteful. Spirituality seems to be lost in today's society. Reading of one man's quest for this purpose on earth makes one think of their own spirituality. If only more people actually wanted to make a difference in the world like the semi-fictional Johnny.
Congrats to such a talented author.

An American Tale!
This book is an American epic, written toward Aesop's predictions, Hemingway's poetry, esoteric dimensions. An American Gao Xingjian.

A Little Gem!
Funny, poignant and terrifically well written! I stumbled across this book by accident and was rewarded with a wonderful read, that alternately moved me to tears and found me chuckling out loud. And a great, colorful - but believable - cast of characters. Highly recommended!

I Laughed, I Cried
I have to tell you how much I am enjoying The Rich Part of Life.Kokoris's first sentence is certainly as good as Marquez's in A Hundred Years of Solitude. I love the Pappas family and the various hangers on. What a bunch of terrific characters. And I've had to put the book down a number of times, screaming with laughter--the unwitting bon mots from Aunt Bess--excruciatingly funny! This book is poignant and hilarious, serious and zany--I'm 2/3s the way through and don't want it to end. This is a movie waiting to be made. Kokoris is a real talent, and my new favorite author. I will tell everyone I know to get it.

Funny, Sad, Real....
The author creates humor in a sad situation. It's one of the best books I've read so far. The characters are very real and true to life. Great book...
