Great Book
I read this book a couple of months ago. I know that his ways to win sweepstakes works because it has worked for me. I will also be trying his game show technics in a couple of years. A must read for people who really want to win.

interesting, especially part about contests, game shows.
Have seen author interviewed on tv several times. Obviously he was an actor, for he is very good. Don't know about secrets of winning lottery, but information on contests and game shows most effective. Understand author has won considerable prizes and money by entering contests and appearing on game shows - so he knows his stuff. Recommend book to people interested in these things, especially because of entertaining style of writing and anecdotes

Sine qua non
Most civilized persons would consider this reference as essential as a dictionary or atlas. It is entirely important to remember that some things in life should be ordered, standardized, and predictable, even when (especially when) they are based upon random chance along with strategy.

Like any good reference, it is important not only to own this book and to be familiar with it, but to use it. It is fun to read, and promotes a sense of reaffirmation when the modern world constantly attempts to paint every issue in shades of gray. It's just too bad there is not a section in this edition for dealing with election disputes.

Unless you have been part of a weekly poker game, you may not understand why I like this book, particularly the section on "ethics and etiquette," so much. There really is some honor among thieves. Life really is more fun (and chaos more enjoyable) when we adhere to the letter and spirit of the rules.

a must have!
I first bought this book over a dispute in poker I had with a friend. You can imagine my shock when I found out he was right. Since then, the cover has been worn off my copy from repeated use. This book is great for settling disputes and learning new games. A must have for anyone who plays cards.

My $50,000 Year at the Races
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (September, 1978)
Author: Andrew Beyer
Amazon base price: $8.95
Used price: $13.95

The Master Strikes Again
Beyer once again hammers home the fact that he's the Master of Masters, the Seer of Seers, and simply the best handicapper (and author) ever to come down the pike. His witticisms, combined with a rare insight and feel into the game, make this a true joy to read and behold. His love for horse racing comes through on every page, and as we take the trip with him into realizing his lifelong dream (which is many of ours as well, I'd venture), his joy is palpable. Since the time of his writing this tome, of course, the game has become even more difficult for pure Speed Handicappers, due to the immense popularity (and success) of his now world-renowned Beyer Speed Figs, but that just adds to the pleasure. A must for any 'capper, and even for those who just enjoy great writing!

The book for one who wants to live at the windows.
Mr. Beyer takes us thru his year of betting the horses. This is the year he finally realizes his goal of becoming a full time player. I first read this book as a teenager and have been hooked on the game ever since. I might not agree with all his methods of betting but the book is a very enjoyable read.

Perfect Pool Player Gift!!
I bought this book for my sister who is a pool player.
Even though they play alot, its nice to have different options on games to play. I would recommend this book as a perfect gift for your pool playing friends!

Awesome!
AS a rookie pool player I found this book very encouraging and gratifying to assist with my pool limited abilities. Not only did I learn new games with enjoyment, but I also gained a sense of pool strategies and techniques. I would recommend this book to anyone with the slightest interest in pool, whether it be for entertainment or as a learning tool. Thankyou for providing a book which I have never been to exposed to before.

Most Complete and Accurate Book of its Kind!
This is an outstanding guide for the beginner as well as the advanced collector. It features outstanding color pictures of some of the rarest chips in the hobby and its completeness and thoroughness is second to none. The hobby of casino chip collecting is just in its infancy and compared to many hobbies, its combination of history, beauty and true scarcity will certainly propel its popularity and values to new heights over the next few years. A great book to carry with you while antiquing or searching flea markets! Who knows, maybe YOU will find the next $10,000 chip!!

Unbelievable source of valuable information
This is by far the ultimate source of information on the exciting casino chip collectible hobby. This is not merely a price guide like most of the other books on casino chips that i have seen, but a remarkable full color display of the rarest chips i have seen. In addition, the history of some of the casinos and the use of casino chips over the last century is delightfully represented. The best part about the book is the invaluable Grading System set up by the authors. This unprecedented system is of utmost importance for any serious chip collector. Aside from all of this, just seeing all the full-colored pictures of the actual casino chips makes this book one that should be on everyone's book shelf.

A TRUE MASTERPIECE!

the first and best about indian gaming
This is bound to be a classic, one of those books scholars will use as a reference in trying to understand the transformation of Indian nations in the late 20th century. Several years before Indian casinos changed the economic landscape of the southern New England and other sections of North America, Rick Hornung was one of the first reporters on the case. In 1989-1990, he traveled to Mohawk lands, artfully documenting the Mohawks' violent civil war over the effort to build, run and maintain lucrative casinos. While most nations negotiated settlements and compacts with state and federal governments, the Mohawks refused to give up their sovereignty over reserved lands. This decision to resist and begin a new, dynamic economy is at the core of Hornung's gripping, exciting and incisive chronicle of what happens to an Indian community when it must decide between gambling or other forms of economic and political development. Adding to the complexity and excitement is Hornung's shrewd awareness of how troubles in New York spilled across the St. Lawrence River and caused an armed revolt on the streets of Montreal. Determined to let the various present their views, Hornung creates a vivid and unfrogettable protrait of a Mohawk community faced with the conflicting demands of preserving the past and securing a future. From one confrontation to the next, Hornung weaves a tight narrative of suspense and political intrigue that often erupts into violence. In his book, the Mohawks are astute and intelligent participants in the struggle to redefine their own identity in a world of loss, longing and betrayal.

Intelligent and Relevant
This account of the Mohawk Civil War, near the end of the 20th century, proves even more relevant at the beginning of the 21st, as gambling laws and Indians make new news. Rick Hornung invites the men and women whose story this is, to speak from their own places of division and betrayal. With honesty and intelligence, Hornung's report brings these people to the understanding of his readers. One Nation Under The Gun is one of the most important books for anyone brave enough to look deep inside conflict and struggle. It is a must read for the serious student of history, politics, and government.
