Great golf gambling tips
Of course, none of us would ever or has ever bet on a round of golf .... but if you were to say play for something (bragging rights perhaps), this book is the key to victory. Not only does the aothor cover all sorts of golf gambling games (traditional and some quite obscure), but he also offers a detailed analysis and strategies of these games in great anecdotal style. Truly a great read that any serious golfer would enjoy.

Doug Sanders Knows Sports!
Not only is Doug Sanders (The Sandman) an all around great guy, he really knows how to teach someone a sport. I can't wait for his next book on fishing. He better hold off an instructional book on hockey though!

Oral History at its best!
This is a fascinating story told in the words of a great collection of people who "were there." Former wives, dealers, PR types, executives, many from the '40s and '50s offer candid insights and memories that illustrate the complexity, and at times the profound sadness, of Bill Harrah's life.

Casino cheating (by owners, employees, and customers!), evolution of gambling machines, promotional stunts, big name entertainment, and the famed auto collection are covered extensively.

My only reservation (a minor one) is that Harrah's subsidized some of the production costs of the book which probably had some editorial impact. For example, embarassing or critical material is typically played down. (No interviews here of disgruntled competitors or former employees) Please do not let this comment keep you from reading "Every Light", it is great!

Captures a true insight about Harrahs & Gambling
This oral history about William Harrah is excellent. I believe the manner in which Kling interviewed all of the people gives you a inside edge to understanding more how the gaming business was run in the early years, and how Harrah help to create a successful industry. This book is definitly worth reading!

Shows how to use pedigree information to pick winners
With the publication of Exploring Pedugree horseplayers finally have available information(an a perspective of how to use it) that allows them to intelligently evaluate debut runners in maiden races, as well as young horses stretching out, switching to the turf or trying an off-track for the first time.

"A quantum leap in handicapping consciousness." The Cramer-Olmsted Report

"A major breakthrough in handicapping." Daily Racing Form

An indispensible tool for the serious handicapper.
Be clear on one point: this book is not for general consumption. Helm is writing for a particular audience, and that is thoroughbred horseracing handicappers and bettors. That said, I cannot recommend this volume highly enough. Witih the explosion in computer technology over the past several years, and the attendant availability of rafts of information, there are very few true "frontiers" left to the race handicapper. Pedigree -- a horse's bloodlines, and all that they suggest about his/her abilities -- are, in Helm's view, the last unexplored territory. He begins with a compelling examination of the current state of the thoroughbred breeding industry. But his truly original contribution to the ever-growing literature of handicapping follows, as he creates a cogent technology for applying pedigree information to the analysis and playing of specific types of races. In Helm's view, the real opportunities at the racetrack arise when one can, based on reliable data, project that a horse will be able to accomplish something that it has not yet attempted. So, a first-time starter may be backed with confidence...if the bloodlines suggest precocity. A sprinter may be backed in a distance race...if the pedigree suggests stamina. And so forth. Races that previously appeared to be unplayable become golden opportunities. Bottom line: this stuff works! Since this initial volume, Helm has published several updates, and puts out annual "Sire Ratings," so that those of us who use his essential technology can work with the most current information.

This book keeps my patients sober.
I have been using these exercises for years and they keep my patients sober. The patients take the book home and go over the material they learned in treatment. This keeps them sober. Most treatment centers use a collection of poor exercies they gathered over the years. Here are all of the great ones in one place. The text covers chemical use history, honesty, steps one through five, and relapse prevention. It's a Great Book!

Finally a great book for gamblers.
We use this book for all of our patients. They love the exercises and take them home and go over them again and again. This keeps them thinking about recovery. The book leaves no stone unturned. It has everything a problem gambler needs to stay in recovery.

Titillating, yet moralizing... (PART 2)
Continued---I scored four "Yes" answers on the Gambler's Anonymous COMPULSIVE GAMBLING 20 Questions list at the end of the book. I enjoyed every word, from The Gambler's Lament (from Rig Veda, ancient Sanskrit text) to Dostoyevsky/Sigmund Freud to Meyer Lansky to Kate Pullinger. Do NOT buy it... unless you love gambling. I loved it

Titillating, yet moralizing...
This book is unique, written for those who love everything about gambling. It is a magnificent, lavish, gift for someone you know who loves gambling. The 144 page hardbound book is a composite of gambling information from all over the world including excerpts from famous gambling literary references. Kate Pullinger's first person account of Las Vegas is from the woman's point of view (feminist without being a feminist). Men and women, both, MUST read Kate Pullinger's passage detailing the thoughts and feelings of the five women she interviewed in Las Vegas casinos. Quote: "All the women I meet in Las Vegas agree on one thing: they all say 'Vegas is the only place where I feel I can go by myself.'... A place where women can stay out all night without worrying about their personal safety..."Kate Pullinger's "A Gambling Box" (1993) was a gift from my wife. I am a gambling enthusiast. Mostly I like to play. But I also love to read about GAMBLING. I scored four "YES" answers o

A must-have for the wanna-be football better
I have had this book in my collection for the last 10 years. It was the first book I ever purchased on the subject, and after reading and buying 5 additional, I have to say that this is the best book on football handicapping available. It is pre-Internet, so do not expect to find info on on-line books. It covers most aspects well, and it very easy to understand. Well worth your $5.00.

Mr. McCunes first work, he even gets better!
This 1984 ground breaker gives the new sports bettor a fighting chance. Get this one, then track down his current works!

The best gambling book of 2002
This is an easy, fun and exciting read that will be enjoyed by anyone who's ever placed their fate in the hands of the gambling gods.

After you read it, you'll soon realize that the real gods of gambling are the seven guys (that you've probably never heard of) featured in the book who learned early on that Lady Luck is a fickle broad who's best left at home.

Rare Vegas Winner
Gambling Wizards is for two types of readers: gamblers who understand the environment; and those that get the jitters buying a $1 lottery ticket. If you want to travel past the glitz and into the minds of a select group of people who are skilled professionals buy this book. The true stories titillate, provide insider information, and offer advice on how to avoid ending up a sucker.

How to Detect Casino Cheating at Blackjack

Nice work
If you frequent casino blackjack tables this book is well worth your time.

This book deals with a controversial subject -- insider cheating in casinos. Although the days of unregulated bust-out joints is over (at least in the US it is) it is not impossible to encounter some kind of cheating at casino blackjack tables. According to the author (who worked as a casino exec for a number of years), nowadays insider cheating in casinos is rare and it mostly happens by the floor staff running their own scams; not by the house running a scam against their customers. Even if the establishments are not to be blamed for such occurrences this book made some noise in the casino community simply because these establishments do not want the subject of the possibility of insider cheating even mentioned. I say, wherever money passes hands there will be some fast hands and the subject can not be ignored.

Those who are already familiar with some standard blackjack cheating techniques and strategies will have to read through some descriptions they already know. However, I still found some fresh ideas and even the author's opinion on the subject is well worth the read.

Highly recommended.

Don't Play for Serious Coin without Reading This Book!
Bill Zender worked his way up through the ranks from dealer all the way to Casino Manager at the Aladdin. He has also worked for the Nevada Gaming Commission. His unique perspectives on casino cheating are a "must read" for the serious blackjack player, as a cheating dealer can obliterate your bankroll faster than a Vegas floozy. He discusses seconds-dealing in great detail, and how to detect it from the players chair. He also discusses methods taken by the casinos (since they are often victims of cheating dealers as well) and by the commission. All serious players will hit a bad streak eventually. You MUST be confident in your ability to determine whether it is luck alone, or a cheating dealer that is to blame (it's almost always bad luck, but you gotta know this). If you can't do this, you won't win over the long haul, it's as simple as that.
