Save your money
I read every book on poker I can find, and this one is as close to worthless as it can be.

Finally, all the secrets of Poker revealed!
This is an informative, smartly written book that is filled with details and tips on various games of poker. I enjoyed the wit and humor of the prose as well all the games packed into this book. The writers have a real flair and I learned alot from this book. Sometimes the writing reminded me of Sex in the City, very urbane and witty. Anyone (male or fremale) who is clueless about poker could benefit from reading this book. They even show you how to better your luck if you get stuck with a DUD hand.

All the women at my Saturday night game had better look out! Momma has an ace up her sleeve and I got it from this book!

Disappointed to a serious horseplayer in Hong Kong
Very disappointed. This book actually teaches me nothing on turf handicapping. Perhaps this is because the main stream of horse racing in the United States is dirt racing.

The way to beat the turf favorites
Turf Overlays are hard to find. This book helps bettors win much more money. Instead of leaving the track with eleven dollers. But Turf Overlays can help you leave with one hundred dollers

Too old to be relevant -- a 1992 book with a new title
I was a great fan of this author's 1992 book titled 'All Right,OK, You Win,' which was an insightful and well-written overview of theStrip. When I saw this book, 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome,' I hoped for an update of all that has happened on the Strip since 1992. Imagine my dismay when I discovered it's the exact same book as 'All Right, OK, You Win,' with a different cover and a different title. END

Great diversion
Although I patronize neither casinos nor brothels, Spanier's book was fascinating reading for me. He takes his reader inside the back rooms of casinos, explaining how they can afford to give away freebies to their best customers, how they draw new families, and the future of Las Vegas. He puts the story of the Nevada city into a historical context, explaining how it blossomed from a railroad outpost a few decades ago into the major destination it is today. He concludes by speculating about the effect of competition, including nearby Laughlin, state lotteries, and Atlantic City. This book will not disappoint.

Low-cost, but you get what you pay for.
You will want much more than this book delivers. Look for Magriel's "Backgammon" as your introductory text.

A very good book for beginners
This book is very good for beginning players.

It gives basic rules and strategy in an easy to read format.

And the price is right.

One of the very best tells some stories
This book unlike his other work, SuperSystem a Course in Power Poker, is not going to do much or your poker game. It is a group of articles he wrote for an out of print gambling magazine. They are recollections of playing on the underground trail of big-poker games in the 50's through the 70's and then playing for vast sums of money in Vegas. Some of the stories are quite good but not all are exactly gripping. If you didn't already know many of the points these stories make, e.g. pay attention to your opponents, know yourself, no limit is a different kettle of fish than limit poker, etc. then you might want to reconsider playing for anything more than nickels. This book is pretty much for hardcore poker fans only.

Enjoyable Reading
Here is a somewhat fanciful look at the life of Warren Nelson. Mr. Nelson had a superb career in the Nevada gaming industry, and his life story is fun, easy reading. His account of his experiences as a partner at the Club Cal Neva and Palace Club are good reading.

Excellent Book For Beginners
This book does an excellent job of explaining the various types of keno tickets. I was disappointed to find quite a few spelling and grammatical errors. I would recommend the book for beginners and for those players who are wanting to learn about "way" and "combination" tickets.

More like a book than a reference
A great idea with good information, but poorly laid-out. It reads like a book rather than a "guide." Probably a good read before you go, but not a good idea for a book to take with you for hints once you get there

The Company That Bought the Boardwalk: A Reporter's Story of Resorts International

Author: Gigi Mahon
Amazon base price: $10.95

Collectible price: $0.95

Interesting read
An interesting and quick read about an exciting story. However, although the book is highly entertaining for a reader curious about the origins and development of Resorts it does lack substance and detail. Many of the stories in the book are somewhat vague and appear to be included merely as a measure of sensationalism rather than to make a specific point. The main executives in the book could also have been described in more detail.
