Don't bother
Killer Poker has very little practical information on the mechanics of playing poker. It doesn't advise you when to play, raise, fold, or bluff. Rather, the advise it offers can be boiled down to, play aggressive and always try to be aware of, and fix, your mistakes. If this book had given some method for identifying and correcting mistakes it would have been worthwhile. There are other, much better, books on poker out there.

Poker Library Must
The advice in Killer Poker is relevant to every person who thinks he already is a top-notch player. It can plug a leak you weren't aware of if you are willing (or capable) of brutal self-examination. I don't recommend this book for fundamentals. Or for those who think compassion is a part of poker. The writing style is a cut above other writers in the genre. I would have given it five stars if it came with a Ben Franklin bookmark.

Excellent. How to Think about Poker
I've read 5 or 6 poker books. They all deal with details of starting hands and how to play and so on. The problem is not so much that we don't know how to play well, it's that we don't do what we know we're supposed to do. We are victims of our own emotions and bad habits.

John Vorhaus has an easy humorous syle that shows us thru examples and excercises how to get better control of the beast within us that encourages us to play badly.

This is not to say that there is no playing strategy. Luckily,
by simplifying starting hand selection with his "absolut" and "small card poison" ideas, my own play online has improved very noticeably. He has also simplified understanding of the odds so that you can use your mind for playing instead of computing.

He provides many excercises that you can use no matter what methods you currently follow that WILL improve your game. This of course pertains to players that may need to improve their game.
If I were only going to read one poker book before playing this would be it.

Books that concentrate too heavily on strategy treat poker as if it were a strictly mathematical excercise. Poker isn't blackjack. With poker it's decisions within decisions within decisions. Mental discipline doesn't come easy, we need to work at it. For me this is the BEST poker guide to that end.

Never get Self Working books
I have wasted hours and hours reading these selfworking books and have learned ONE trick which is foolproof and i like greatly. All the other tricks are so easy to figure out or mathematical which is not very impressive. It is in these type books that mathematical tricks that have ruined card magic are learned. I used to think card magic ... until finally I saw some good card tricks. All the goodcard tricks i have ever seen require sleights, such as the glide, double lift, false shuffles, or else need gimmmicks that can be examined like the short card and stripper deck. These self working books have tricks without sleights or gimichs. Good card tricks don't work if there isn't sleights or examinable genius gimmicks. So don't waste your money on these over priced books

Another great book!
This is another really fine book of material for the average magician. Much is from 'Pallbeares Review', a magazine published by the author, and now considered one of the best sources for excellent material.
Many of the effects in this book are mathematical, and will fool most people, including magicians. The nice part is that you don't have to understand the mathematics, or why it works, to be able to do it. All that is required is attention to detail and good audience management. For that reason, the magician-to-be should be at least 12 years old, although some of the tricks could be done by someone who is younger.

Gotta have it!
If you see a book written by Karl Fulves on magic that has the words Self-Working in the title then buy it. There is a wealth of knowledge in each of these books. -Diamond Jim Tyler

Teeny Tiny and expensive
This is not a book. This is a very short pamphlet for a lot of money (compare to almost any other of the books on blackjack). It is only 45 pages long, and those pages are only 3 inches by 5 inches ! All the information in the so-called book can be found elsewhere, cheaper, more organized, more detailed, and large enough to hold without tweezers. Don't waste your money...

I won with it !
I took the book to the table and it was handy to have it with me. The laminated card showed me exactly how to play the cards based on what the dealer had showing. I never walked away from the table with any moeny but this time I did. The book was well worth the information for me. It was simple and to the point. I made money. I am happy.

I won with it !
The book saved me. I took it to the table and it was handy to have. The Laminated insert showed me exactly how to play the cards based on what the dealer had showing. I had been to the table before and never walked away with any money. This time I did because I followed the simple strategies in the book. The money I spent on the book was the best investment I have made in a long time.

Slotplay : Build Your Own Jackpot!

Beware
I cannot believe the good reviews this book has gotten. There is so little here that a serious slot player wouldn't have figured out for himself long ago. The only thing valuable is her discussion of "Times pay," and it is unnessarily vague and difficult to follow. She discusses 6 "times pay" payboards in the text, and my cards at the end numbered 3. They seemed to have been placed with the same care as the prizes in a Cracker Jack box. I felt ripped off. The book is repetitive, full of white space...in short a few ideas blown up to make a book to sell to unsuspecting buyers. It is a good thing Ms Cole does not program the slots in your favorite casino...you would be better off dropping your twelve bucks in the nearest Double Diamond machine.

What a concept!Saving money & playing the slots. Amazing
How delightfully ironic, the thought of saving money at the same time I am planning my next trip to the casino. Ms. Cole has some great tips and she presents them clearly, spiced with a real sense of humor. I can't wait to take my new Slot Play concepts with me on my next encounter with the one armed bandits. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to Ms. Cole's next creative gem.

A great book by a clear and careful writer
Financially sound. Statistically correct. This woman really knows her stuff.

This book is horrible, lots of better ones available $
This book is cheaply constructed and falls apart right away. It is under 30 pages. If you want to play blackjack without counting cards, but any of the popular blackjack books, whether they involve card counting or not. I bought a bunch of them and all of them have a section at the begin on the basic strategy, which is what you are probably looking for anyways. They are better written and cost just a few dollars more. This book is worth ... tops. Buy something else, I regret buying this book.

You can WIN at blackjack without counting cards!
If you're afraid of learning how to count cards, get this little book. You can read it in less than an hour, on the plane or in your hotel room, and you'll learn how to win at blackjack without learning how to count cards. It also explained to me doubling, splitting, insurance and a lot more! A very easy to read basic book!

A very easy way to win at blackjack
I was always afraid of blackjack, I didnt want to learn how to count cards, and this book taught me how to play without counting!

Pick 6 Combinations
A comprehensive listing of "Wheels" or Covers for lottery players who might not have the time or resources to generate their own. Covers 2, 3 and 4 hits very well. Hopefully there will be a series 2 for 5 hits. Readers need to understand what a wheel is and how to use the listings but that is relatively obvious.

True stories but no solutions for families
As the adult child of a compulsive gambler, I picked up this book in desperation, looking for some answers on how I should react to my father and the chaos he has made of his and my mother's life, so that I am actually helping and not hurting the situation. I was sadly disappointed. The only "answers" presented in this book are many recommendations to join GA/Gam-anon. Unfortunately, there is no Gam-anon meeting in my area. I was also looking for an explanation of what it means to "work the steps" and what each step requires. No luck. Just a list of the steps. There are lots of true stories, enough so that almost any reader can find a situation they can relate to, but after you've read through Part One it starts to get tedious and really only depressed me more.

"Losing Your Shirt" gives hope and understanding.
This book is an excellent source for understanding not only the gambler and his/her addiction, but the family members touched by the addiction. It is so well-written, that all members involved in the gambler's life (including the gambler) can relate to its message. For the spouse of a gambler, it can help you to get to the most important stage of grief, which is acceptance. Understanding breeds acceptance.

A must read for gambler's families
Anyone affected by another's gambling must read this book. Also anyone who has ever been told by another that their gambling is problematic must stop and look for themselves in Losing Your Shirt. Being able to identify may be the beginning of getting help before all is lost.

Perfect for the first-time track patron
This book is pretty basic. The first 23 of the 32 pages are devoted to very basic material such as reading the program, the tote board, types of bets, and how to place them.

If you are going to the track for the first time with a group, and you want to bone up on the sport real-quick, this is the perfect book for you.

If you are a serious handicapper looking for an innovative theory or deep discussion on overlays and handicapping, this is not that book.

Prof. Jones a must read for serious handicappers
Prof. Jones book is a great basis book to use for handicapping. It will help you develop you system, and gives honest, sound advice. (there is another review of a different book under this book I also reviewed, sorry for the mixup)

All around great handicapping book
This book gives pretty good insight and suggestions on handicapping, and the techniques work well with the higher grades.
