Casino Tournament Strategy

Good Tournament Times
This book is crucial for any who want to participate in casino tournaments. Generally, in these tournaments you are not playing against the casino, but against other players. Since this is very different than normal play, it is very different. This book gives you a much greater advantage than the other players with whom you are competing. With thousands and thousands of dollars available in prize money, the cost of this book is insignificant in comparison to the gains it can potentially earn you.

Commonsense Handicapping: The Logical, Left-Brained Approach to Winning at the Races
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (June, 1993)
Author: Dick Mitchell
Amazon base price: $23.00
Used price: $29.95
Average review score:

Completely changed my approach to handicapping.
Dick Mitchell's book is a very good read. He shows how to choose the logical contenders in a race as well as eliminate the false favorites. This alone can swing your profit margin way up. He explains the importance of pars and track profiles. Some of his automatic throw outs may seem in contradiction to everything you previously learned, but after you try them you will be amazed as to the accuracy of these few tips. The information learned from this book when used in conjunction with the Gordon Pine par times has greatly increased my bankroll.

The Complete Book of Sports Betting: A New, No-Nonsense Approach to Sports Gambling
Published in Paperback by Lyle Stuart (April, 1996)
Author: Jack Moore
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $7.99
Average review score:

Good primer.....although his "Blindfold Method" is a joke
The first three quarters of the book offer a highly entertaining and educational overview of sport betting. Moore takes the reader through all of the various types of bets and thoroughly explains how the odds for different sporting events are expressed (e.g. money line, point spread, etc.) He also defines much of the lingo in sports betting and devotes an outstanding chapter to the subject of examining (and debunking) many popular misconceptions.

However, Moore's betting system (the "Blindfold Method"), which he uses the last quarter of the book to unveil, is amusing at best. His theory, which suggests that bettors can exploit "soft lines" between different bookmakers, assumes that significant variations in odds can be found regularly ("one or two games per week"). In practice, this does not occur. Most bookmakers are well aware of the Vegas line for all sporting events and manage their betting imbalances by using "lay-off" operations instead of simply changing their lines (a fact completely ignored in the book). As with all betting systems, it is worthwhile to wonder why the author is writing about them instead of using them to make untold millions. For those that do put their faith in Moore's system, the "Blindfold Method" could not be more aptly named.

a college student's review
this book was really interesting and very easy to read. it's divided into a series of different articles by different authors. the only complaint i had was that it was quite repetetive, and it mainly focused on casinos and lotteries without mention of the many other forms of gambling.

You will make money using this strategy
My wife sat next to the author on a flight to Las Vegas recently. The conversation eventually came around to gambling in general and craps specifically. She was intrigued by David's approach so he gave her a copy of his book (for free). Upon her return from Vegas, she gave me the book and said, "You may want to try this".

I read the book cover to cover in about an hour. I then logged on to Omni Casino and proceeded to turn a $2,000 bankroll into approximately $9,000 in five days, playing about an hour a day.

The strategy is simple to implement and requires minimal practice to get the hang of it. I actually received a private practice session from David using his personal craps table that he purchased from MGM Grand. I bought in for $500 and walked away an hour later with $800 using David's strategy.

Buy the book. Practice. And then take your bankroll to your closest craps table. You'll be glad you did.

Excellent reference for educators and curriculum developers
Kenneth gives the readers a clear picture of what the curriculum and how the curriculum is developed. In the beginning of each chatper, Kenneth introduced a little story about the content of that chapter. That gives the readers an idea about what's going on in the field. I think it is a very good book for people who studies education and for the curriculum developers.

Different but very entertaing
Philadelphia private detective Frank Sweeney visits Atlantic City searching for the missing brother of his best friend. It seems that Nick D'Angelo was a compulsive gambler, who vanished about six months ago. Frank quickly learns that Nick died in a fire set by an arsonist hit man, whose modus operandi is to trap his intended victims and watch them horribly suffer as they burn to death. ...... Frank starts to investigate the mysterious fire breather, who apparently has killed other people with his fire bombs. He traces the last days of Frank and asks questions of those individual who knew the former cop just before he died. As he comes closer to identifying the culprit behind the fiery deaths, Frank realizes that he himself might become the next seared casualty trapped in the heat of the night. ...... DEATH IN A DRY SEASON is a fiery thriller that will please fans of action novels and lovers of the high technology supporting today's gambling industry. Frank's personality is a strange combination of eastern philosophy with western inner city street smarts. Most of the time this works well, but occasionally the character appears a bit off centered. The story line is predictable, but is fun to read anyway as John Wells demonstrates he has the talent to take his private detective very far in today's market. ......Harriet Klausner

I love this book.....
If you want a book that explains how to use Window Sockets, TCP/IP, developing a Game Lobby and not mention the awesome MySql section for storing user info then this book is for you. Learning Direct Play was cool but I wanted more on socket programming so if you want to get your hands dirty and see what's going on for your self then buy this book. I sat in the book store first because I got burned by another book and I tell you before I got to the last chapter as I skimmed through it I was sold! The book is a gem and the author's explanations are clear and consise you will be up to speed in no time.

The encyclopedia of gambling : the game, the odds, the techniques, the people and places, the myths and history
Published in Unknown Binding by Collins ()
Author: Peter Arnold
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $14.50
Average review score:

Good but dated.
Arnold's coffee table size book is still one of the most comprehensive collections of information on and about gambling. First published in 1978 the book has become dated although it remains a great starting point for anyone who wants a general overview that would otherwise require reading a collection of books on different aspects of gambling.

Some of the photgraphs and drawings used to illustrate the book are excellent and one wonders how Arnold managed to find them all.

Fast Company

Traveling through U.S. gambling subcultures
Not really a travel book, like the rest of the Vintage Departures line, but an examination of another culture just the same. Bradshaw profiles six men with something in common--they are all hustlers, that is, gamblers who make a living by their wits. The range here is great, including the tennis player Bobby Riggs and backgammon great Tim Holland, as well as more "traditional" gamblers Minnesota Fats (pool), Pug Pearson and Johnny Moss (poker), and Titantic Thompson (proposition). But these were just what these men were best at--they all exceeded at almost every game they undertook, golf being an extremely common one for each. Bradshaw was a gifted writer. His style makes this book difficult to place down; the subject makes it nigh impossible.
