Some of the best juvenile fiction written in the last 20 yrs
This is an epistolary novel. Dumas is in jail waiting to be sentenced for manslaughter. His lawyer tells the 15 year old that he might be able to avoid prison if he can make the judge understand why he was involved in a gunfight at a poker table. The tale of this refugee from a Mississippi orphanage is wonderfully writ, with the yellowed eye of a poolroom habitue.

This is a great intro to the world of gambling
Even though I'm not old enought to go to a casino, I probably know more about gambling than most people. This book is great because it introduces you to games you didn't know how to play, the odds of all the games, and lots of different strategies. There are over 120 bets on the craps table! Also it gives you insight to gambling in other countries and real advice from the author's personal experience. The author also provides you with lots of trivia you can amaze your friends with. Such as the most bingo cards played at one time was 346 when there were 30 second intervals between the calling of each number. If you want to learn a little about all the games, this book is for you, if you are an expert, you would still love the trivia! This is a must buy for everyone.

Legalized Gambling: America's Bad Bet

An good, easy to learn book about the pitfalls of gambling
Gambling has been a hot issue in nearly every state today. Gambling interests tell your state legislature that legalized gambling will bring jobs, revenue, and prosperity for all. John Eidsmoe does an outstanding job destroying all the flimsy claims of gambling advocates by pointing out such factors as gambling addiction, bankruptcy, cruelty to animals in pari-mutuel betting, how gambling preys upon the lower class as a regressive form of taxation. The book also tells about how gambling at the least does nothing for a state economy, at the worst it hurts businesses. Most importantly is the fact that gambling is linked to organized crime and the mob's insiduous tactics to subterfuge legal gambling operations. This book is well written and detailed, yet an easy read for anyone who wonders what as to how gambling would do to their community. It should be required reading for all state legislators who are struggling with the gambling issue in their state.

Oh, no wonder i couldnt win.
betting, you cant beat the action. I have above average intelligence, but I had no common sense when it came to betting. No discipline, no money management and no sense. This book was jumping out before me. the skies opening up. A hundred scratches of the head and a thousand oh yeahs. Changed my life. Follow the tenants of the book to the letter of the law. Be a fanatic and never deviate and then you just might have a opprotunity at being a winner. Without this book, there is no opprotunity. NOw being smart is as easy as bookwork. I own a comfortable life due to Lem Banker and to playing backgammon where the laws of probabilites cant be argued.
